Grow Journal: Bruce Banner (Part 1)
When it comes to reviewing strains, I often stick to the belief that classics are classic for a reason. The same goes for selecting strains to grow. Since we have an affinity for Work Sativa at Illinois News Joint, it’s no surprise that I finally got my hands on the original Bruce Banner cut by Dark Horse Genetics for my latest grow journal.
Bruce Banner is a cross of OG Kush and Strawberry Diesel. I was lucky to be gifted a rooted clone, roughly 4 inches tall, which grew with a distinct bushy twisting action that created a dense, and leafy veg phase. The almost curly structure lent itself to more topping and trimming than I usually do, cutting the top fully twice and trimming the lower branches back considerably four times. The plant responded well to the maintenance with a steady vigor and consistently praying leaves. This was also my first grow using the new Growers Republic M780 Grow Light, and it was obvious the boost in power was making for happier plants.
I applied both FishShit and Prime Superior Concentrate as a foliar spray weekly but relied on my organic living soil to supply the bulk of the needed nutrients for the entire grow. The plant eased up on the curling action in the stretch phase but remained stout and bushy in overall structure even into flowering. The flowers and leaves initially appeared as a bright turf green but gradually darkened with deep-black leaves and dark-forest-green flowers topped with tall capitate trichomes. The aroma in my grow room maintained a top note of tangy diesel and terpinolene with warmer undertones of pine and kushy funk.
I chopped on day 72 and cured for 14 days. The buds were dense and rounded, but the bushy structure made trimming slightly more work than the average plant.. The aroma after curing became even sharper as the burnt orange and hot mustard notes of terpinolene overtook the rest of the profile. The flavor carried through more of the variety with the tangy hot mustard top note giving way to a blend of diesel, pineapple, mint, oregano, and cedar.
A lift in energy set in quickly making me both talkative and creative. Focusing was easy, and I found a great work window roughly 30 minutes into the experience. Bruce Banner is noted for its euphoric effects, and this cut delivered with a body high that sent tingling waves outward from my chest. Bruce Banner provided an excellent daytime strain for staying active and productive, and with higher doses, a calm, functional relaxation. Stay tuned for Bruce Banner Part 2 and more entries from News Joint Grow Journal.
