Review: Root Beer MAC Live Sugar by Legacy

2

One aspect of cannabis that drew me in from the world of wine was how much more expansive the aromatic and flavor possibilities in cannabis were, and I believe a lot of flavor opportunities are still left to explore. The exploration of Legacy’s Root Beer MAC Live Sugar made me ask the obvious. Does it taste like Root Beer?

Root Beer MAC is a sativ- leaning hybrid cross of Root Beer and MAC #11, originally bred by Mosca Seeds. This batch of live sugar tested at 2.95% CBGa, 6.28% THC, 79.09% THCa, and 88.69% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 2.94% of the total weight with β-caryophyllene, limonene, terpinolene, and β-myrcene being the heaviest.

A pool of deep amber terp-heavy oil carried a mass of kosher-salt sized THCa-crystalline chunks. The generous oil amount combined with the thick viscosity created a jelly-like effect that was much more moist than the sugar label indicated. That same viscosity made for an easy scooping and dosing concentrate

A sharp and sweet fusion of lemon rind, grapefruit, cut wild grasses, yellow mustard, and sea brine made up the aroma. The real magic was in vaporization, though, as the lemon, grapefruit, and wild grass tones turned sweeter and earthier respectively, creating a root-beer candy note that dominated the profile. Higher temperatures and longer pulls revealed notes of cream and black pepper at the finish. The entire profile had a lot of staying power and stuck to the palate long after a dab.

Root Beer MAC provided a fast acting head high that cleared my head and gave me an energy boost that was more physical than mental. Pulses of euphoric buzzing started in my chest at first, expanding into full-body waves of energy at the peak. The open mental state was highly flexible allowing me to be playful or focused as needed, making Root Beer MAC a great fit for a wake and bake. After the energetic buzzing subsided, a wave of muscle relaxation was left in its wake for a couple hours.
