Review: Smackerz by One Day
The Illinois cannabis market is already shaping up for growth in 2024. Every time I pull up dispensary menus, another craft producer seems to finally come online. One Day is one of the latest craft licensees to get flower to market, and I recently encountered the entire lineup of new drops at Stash Orland Park. The first strain I chose to review was Smackerz.
Smackerz is an indica leaning hybrid cross of Gorilla Glue and Rozay. This batch of flower tested at 0.03% CBDa, 0.3% Delta 9 THC, and 31% THCa. Five fluffy and lightly trimmed popcorn sized flowers carried a bright turf-green base tone. Bundled fire-orange hairs stuck to the surface in clumps but still displayed a delicate structure. The entire bud was highlighted with a dense trichome frost. Spongy with a lively bounceback, these flowers set a high standard for dry and cure.
Smackerz delivered one of the sweetest in-jar aromas I’ve ever encountered with a layered blend of overripe berries and bananas, alongside a cream tone that smelled exactly like a fresh, warm, glazed donut. Lighter tones of mango, guava, lemongrass, and grapefruit came through as well, while the sweet tones hid hints of sour funk and fresh rain on the finish. The complexity did not carry over to the palate with the overripe berry, sugary glaze, and lemongrass carrying the flavor and lingering for quite some time post exhale.
Smackerz smacked as a hybrid more than an indica, providing a clearheaded come up with a positive mood and a big headspace, allowing for focus and clarity of thought. This clear spacious headspace relieved my anxiety, and a light body profile kept me productive. Light tingles of euphoria hit during the peak of the experience but quickly faded into the background. The tail end of the Smackerz experience was marked by an increase in appetite, making this a good pre-meal smoke.
