Review: X Bites Gummies by Select
As the legal market ages, more brands are looking to cater to “seasoned” consumers. Select’s latest approach is a new formulation and line of gummies called X Bites. I recently picked up from Curaleaf Weed Street three flavors from the new line: Rainbow Upload, Strawberry Spacewalk, and Orange Matter.
Each flavor of X Bites comes as a 10-pack of gummies with 10mg of THC per gummy. The ingredients are glucose syrup, sugar, water, natural flavors, gelatin, pectin, sorbitol, citric acid, cannabis oil, vegetable glycerin, sunflower oil, lecithin, fruit and vegetable juice, xanthan gum, and ascorbic acid.
Translucent orange, pink, and green, these classic THC symbol squares were three quarters of an inch on each side and a quarter inch thick. The exterior was moist with a light stickiness that added to the juiciness of the mouthfeel. Overall, the gummies chewed with a classic gummy mouthfeel that could pass for any mass-market chew.
Each flavor had a creamy aspect. The Orange Matter evoked the classic creamsicle flavor with a light bitterness at the finish. The Strawberry Spacewalk was the sweetest of the three with an artificial berry tone at the top, followed quickly by the creamy body and only a hint of the cannabis bitterness. The Rainbow Upload carried a rainbow sherbert flavor at the very top before leaning into the bitter tone, evoking lime peel. The gummies had clean finishes, and all three flavors were cleared from the palate very quickly.
Select uses a nanoencapsulation technology that moves the THC into your bloodstream faster than a traditional edible, and I noticed effects starting at the 20-minute mark. Initially, a warming sensation cascaded from my crown into my body. Eventually the effect peaked as all-over waves of pressure and tingles. Mentally, a haziness covered my awareness, making me relaxed but distracted. After the peak of experience, the calm mental frame remained with me for the better part of two hours.
