The Department of Health and Human Services released 250+ pages of highly redacted documents detailing its rationale for recommending that marijuana be rescheduled based on a determination that cannabis has a currently accepted medical use.
The National Defense Authorization Act conference report negotiated by House and Senate leaders contains provisions funding clinical trials on the benefits of psychedelics such as psilocybin and MDMA for active duty military service members with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.
- However, the final NDAA legislation removes a House-passed provision to create a medical cannabis pilot program for veterans as well as a Senate-passed section to protect people from being denied security clearances due to marijuana.
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said local officials in the District of Columbia should be allowed to legalize marijuana sales in the nation’s capital without congressional interference “if that’s what Washington D.C. wants.”
A bipartisan group of members of Congress led by Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) filed a bill to end federal marijuana prohibition in legal states while also legalizing interstate cannabis commerce.

The House bill to federally legalize marijuana got three new cosponsors for a total of 76.

A Missouri senator prefiled legislation to add marijuana to a law that reduces or eliminates workers compensation eligibility for injured employees found to be under the influence of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled drugs.
A South Carolina senator said he plans to reintroduce a medical cannabis bill in 2024.
Virginia lawmakers discussed the prospects for passing legislation to legalize marijuana sales.
