Does CBD increase pressure in our eyes?

The short answer is yes. Using CBD can increase the pressure inside the eyes. In a study conducted in 2018, Indiana University found out that this chemical component present in Cannabis is a contributing factor to eye pressure rising. The researchers documented that CBD resulted in an 18 percent rise in pressure within the eyes. Its effect lasted for a minimum of four hours. Thus, making CBD not ideal for a person with glaucoma. Aside from that, using CBD as a treatment for glaucoma could lead to much worst problems since the escalated pressure inside the eye can lead to irreversible vision loss.

Is CBD bad for glaucoma?

High eye pressure is a primary risk for people diagnosed with glaucoma. It can quicken the damage to the optic nerve at the back of their eyes, resulting in a high possibility of blindness.

To fight glaucoma, we have to lower the eye pressure as much as possible. Decreased eye pressure can slow down any permanent damage that glaucoma may cause in the eyes. Thus, CBD alone is not highly recommended as a treatment for this disease.

It is good that other cannabinoids present in marijuana such as TCH (tetrahydrocannabinol) are known to lower eye pressure. For this reason, you may consider THC for its positive effect on glaucoma.

Conclusion: Should you consider CBD for glaucoma?

According to scientific research, it can increase eye pressure which can worsen the condition of your eyes. Worst, it could lead to irreversible blindness. Thus, oils high in THC and very low in CBD are advised to use for glaucoma.

There is no cure for glaucoma. However, you can control it with proper treatment. You can lower vision loss progression or stop it when you do an appropriate remedy.

Prescribed medicine should still be taken seriously to reduce vision loss and avoid optic nerve damage. If you decide to use Cannabis oil or any other THC-containing product, always consult your doctor alongside any existing medications.
