Review: Cherry Pop Tart by Kaviar

0

I hear so many strain names that it’s hard for a new one to catch my attention. Kaviar’s Cherry Pop Tart, though, immediately grabbed me by referencing one of my all-time favorite childhood snacks. I recently stopped into Cloud9 Champaign and picked up an eighth of Cherry Pop Tart to review.

Cherry Pop Tart is a sativa-leaning hybrid blend of High School Sweetheart and Wedding Crasher, originally bred by Tiki Madman. This batch of flower tested at 2.123% THC, 24.752% THCa, and 27.552% total cannabinoids.

Four identical-sized flowers, rounded near the bottom but pointed at the top, carried a bright mix of lime and turf green with thick-orange hairs clumped together. The solidly milky trichome frost added a lightness to the overall coloring. A few stray deep-purple sugar-leaf bases added splashes of darkness. The dry and cure yielded a spongy, nerfy, slow-motion bounce back and a slightly sticky feel.

The jar aroma carried a natural, fruity top-end mix of blueberry, strawberry, and orange peel, with warmer supporting notes of biscuit dough, cooking sugar, and pine sap on the finish.  Initially, the fruity top notes almost completely masked the doughy support notes, but a run through the grinder released the full potential. The ripe berry notes dominated the inhale on the palate with pine and hints of fresh-cut cedar coming in to close out the taste profile. Overall, the flavor wasn’t very sticky and disappeared with the exhale.

Cherry Pop Tart boosted my mood to a playful, silly, and energized headspace that left me talkative but initially unfocused. A strong wave of euphoric tingles began to build with full body engagement, signaling the peak of the experience and bringing on a clarity of mind that allowed me to focus. The physical sensations waned on the back end, further clearing my mind, and I came to enjoy Cherry Pop Tart as a work sativa, but only after the initial rush had passed.
