Review: Hazelnut Cream Sugar by HASH

Despite having reviewed hundreds of products, a few strains on the Illinois market have really stuck with me. Hazelnut Cream is definitely on that list. I first reviewed the flower in March of last year. Recently, I discovered the strain as a sugar from Pharmacann label HASH at Verilife Romeoville, so I picked up a gram to review.

Hazelnut Cream is a sativa-leaning hybrid cross of Cookies & Cream and Miami Haze. This batch of sugar tested at 0.24% CBDa, 4.35% Delta 9 THC, and 81.56% THCa. Terpenes were 3.86% of the total weight with limonene, β-myrcene, and terpinolene being the heaviest.

Just slightly darker than sunflower yellow in the jar, the sugar darkened to an amber when clumped together for a dab. Kosher salt-sized crystals stuck together easily, held by the sticky oil that provided the overall color. There was enough of that oil so that the THCa crystals only revealed their clarity when examined under direct light.

Teasing my nose with a wide range of scents, the deep and complex aroma was noticeable as soon as I opened the jar with a blend of lemon peel, roasted marshmallow, cooking mushrooms, heavy cream, and cedar. The flavor was even harder to decipher with notes of papaya and pineapple appearing at the very front followed by the heavy cream blending with the roasted marshmallow and cedar tones to create the namesake hazelnut flavor that came through clearly at the finish.

Hazelnut Cream induced a calm and collected headspace but didn’t affect my energy levels, making for a strain that landed somewhere near the center of the sativa/indica spectrum. The clarity could be utilized for work if paired with a cup of coffee or to escape from stress at the end of the day. The body effects were less flexible with a warming heaviness pulling on my eyelids and brow before expanding to my chest and arms. Overall, the flexible experiential profile, paired with the unique and deep flavor, made for an enjoyable anytime concentrate.
