Review: Jelly Cake by PC Nursery

1

A handful of strains act as a backbone of many modern genetic trees. Both Biscotti and Sunset Sherbet could be considered for that list, and both contribute to the latest drop from Pharmacann development label PC Nursery, Jelly Cake. I recently picked up an eighth from Verilife Romeoville to review.

Jelly Cake is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Biscotti and Sunset Sherbet. This batch of flower tested at 0.51% Delta 9 THC and 17.8% THCa. Terpenes were 1.09% of the total weight with β-myrcene, β-caryophyllene, and linalool being the heaviest.

Five chunky flowers were more delicate in the palm than the rounded appearance indicated. Deep-royal purple at the base and splashes of bright-turf green took the shape of lightly attached sugar leaves, while fire-orange hairs loosely traced around the exterior of each bud. The trichome frost was thick and transitioning from milky to amber making for an off-white frost clinging to outside. The loose structure was easy to break apart with just some light pressure, and the flowers ground into very fluffy chunky pieces.

Inside the jar notes of sweet grape jelly and fresh blackberry created a sweet top end, followed by a richer and more savory blend of black pepper, cut cedar wood, and wild grass cutting through the fruity top end to provide the finish. The flavor carried some of the grape near the top but quickly transitioned into a sweet creamy tone before the savory black pepper and cedar cut through. The entire profile was sticky with notes of grape, cream, and pepper hanging on to my palate for quite some time post bowl.

Jelly Cake provided a slow building indica buzz that opened as a light mental calm but built over the next half hour into a blank-slate daze. Warming waves of muscle relaxation helped to compound the couchlock effect, but the bulk of the experience was mental. The slow train of thought stretched well past the hour mark with residual fogginess making Jelly Cake a strain best fit for relaxation after the day’s work was done.
