Review: Live Resin Infused Gummies by Superflux

0

One of the trends I’ve appreciated over the last year has been the growth of Illinois’ edible market beyond the standard distillate infusion. As the market matures so have the needs of the consumers, and many companies have responded with the next logical step, live resin infused gummies. I recently picked up three strains from the Superflux Live Resin infused gummy line: Grapple Pie, Dosi Pop, and Dutch Treat x Cherry Pie.

Superflux Live Resin infused gummies are infused with a strain-specific live resin. Grapple Pie is a hybrid cross of Apple Fritter and Grape Gasoline. Dosi Pop is a hybrid cross of Gelato #33 and Biscotti. Dutch Treat X Cherry Pie is a hybrid cross of its namesake strains Dutch Treat and Cherry Pie. The ingredients are sugar, corn syrup, purified water, pectin, malic acid, citric acid, live resin cannabis oil, sodium citrate, sunflower oil, and carnauba wax.

Ten cloudy amber gummies were shaped like the side profile of a round cut diamond, roughly an inch across at the largest point. The exterior was smooth and a pinch between the fingers revealed the gooey soft interior before I ever took a bite. Inside the gooey interior clung to the teeth with a sticky texture.

Other than a light sweetness and a hint of sharpness from the pectin, Superflux allowed the live resin to provide most of the flavor. Grapple Pie carried a slightly sour unripe apple tone at the top, followed by notes of heavy cream, soil, and mushroom with a slight bitter note at the finish. The Dosi Pop was earthier with notes of sandalwood, dried herbs, and a sweet fig tone at the very end that helped to hide most of the bitterness. Dutch Treat x Cherry Pie was very natural tasting, leaning into notes of pine sap, fresh carrots, and soil without the bitterness at the end of the other two. All the flavors were rich and layered but had a clean finish that didn’t stick to the palate.

There wasn’t much difference between the three effect profiles. At the 30-minute mark, a vibrating buzz opened in my chest, spreading outward as the effects unfolded, eventually becoming waves of euphoria that traveled throughout my entire body. A cloudy, unfocused mindset took over, but a surprise pickup in energy left me playful and talkative for the following hour. All three strains notably boosted my mood with a half gummy providing a reliable mood boost in the morning but more than one leaving me hazy and best kept for evenings or days off.

Overall, allowing the live resin to shine created new and interesting flavor profiles, and the more robust infusion created stronger effects than most off-the-shelf edibles. For Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
