Review: Point Break by NEZ
First impressions matter, especially when it comes to cannabis companies. Most consumers will completely turn away from a brand after being burned on one purchase. Even more so when a label such as “craft” is attached, bringing higher expectations for the finished product. NEZ is a new craft grower in Illinois leaning into the distinctive quality-over-quantity character of the craft. I recently picked up from Phili Bourbonnais an eighth of NEZ’s Point Break to review.
Point Break is a slightly indica-leaning hybrid cross of Tropicanna Cookies and Trophy Wife, originally bred by Surfr. This batch of flower tested at 0.31% THC, 23.71% THCa, and 24.02% total cannabinoids. The indicated primary terpenes were β-caryophyllene, limonene, and linalool.

Two large pointed cola tops, alongside one smaller point, made up the eighth with a lively structure that had been carefully trimmed. Bright pinks and purples blended into a light turf-green base that was shrouded by a dense milky-trichome layer and thin-orange hairs reaching out into every direction. The buds were springy to the touch with the delicate structure still intact.
The top end of the aroma from the jar was bar none, the most similar scent to fresh orange and lime peel I have ever experienced in cannabis. Notes of sweet lavender and slate followed the sharp citrus front end. There was a clean, natural character to the entire profile. The palate carried a fresh lime note at the front end with the wet slate from the nose appearing at the finish.
Point Break was fast to induce a strong body pressure in my chest and a headband tightness wrapping around my brow, followed by a relaxing headspace that wiped away the worries of the day. As time passed, a haziness fell over my awareness window, and the body pressure became a warming all over muscle relaxation.
The long tail of the experience was a clearheaded space after the haziness had passed, and this clarity stuck with me for almost two hours. Overall, this was a strong first showing from NEZ, and I’m excited to see more of what the grower does. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
