Review: Sweet Empowder by SweetBuzz

One of the most interesting innovations of the last few years has been the release of fast-acting dissolvable infused powders. The flexibility to “choose your own adventure” by turning essentially any food or beverage into an edible can be a powerful tool. Craft licensee Drecisco Farms label SweetBuzz has tapped into this category with the label’s Sweet Empowder. News Joint Events is set to host SweetBuzz as one of two-dozen craft brands offering samples at the Illinois Craft Showcase at Molly’s Joint from 12-7 p.m. Sept. 7.

SweetBuzz Sweet Empowder comes as 10 sachets of infused powder with 10mg of THC per packet. The ingredients were honey powder, sunflower oil, propylene glycol, and THC extract. Each packet contained around 4 grams, same as a standard sugar packet, of superfine white dust. The powder easily flowed from the packet, fine enough to create a small powder cloud post pour, reminding me of mixing Kool-Aid as a kid. In hot or carbonated drinks, Sweet Empowder dissolved instantly, melting into the drink as I poured. Cold, drinks required some stirring, but after 30 seconds, the powder completely disolved. I stirred a packet into a glass of cold water where it only added a light cloudiness.

Inside each packet, a noticeable aroma of cooked honey reminded me of old school honeycomb candy. This disappeared once dissolved into a food or liquid. Sweet Empowder was surprisingly balanced, providing only a hint of sweetness to whatever it was added to. Even eaten straight the powder only tasted faintly of honey with no lingering on the palate.

Sweet Empowder was very fast acting, providing the quickest onset I’ve ever experienced in an edible with noticeable effects in under 10 minutes. A pressure set into my crown, eyelids, and arms initially but gradually transformed into an all over euphoric tingle. My mindset shifted towards a calm relaxation but didn’t hurt my focus, allowing me to get out of my head and give all my attention to the task at hand. There was little staying power to the effect with a sharp peak at 25-minutes post edible and a calm return to my base state by the hour mark.

Sweet Empowder is the best executed THC powder I’ve seen so far with a light sweet flavor that could be paired with almost anything and a reliable effect profile that worked very quickly. For Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
