Review: Windy City Mix Popcorn by Enliven
One positive aspect of the smaller craft businesses is the ability to innovate and experiment faster than the larger operators. Enliven Edibles embodied this innovation by quickly dropping a first-of-its-kind infused popcorn into Illinois’ market, including this bag of the Windy City Mix. Enliven Windy City Mix popcorn comes as a 50-gram bag of popcorn with 100mg of THC per bag. The Windy City Mix is a 50/50 blend of cheese and caramel flavored popcorn, which Enliven also packages separately.

The large bag was filled to the top with bright-orange cheddar and classic caramel-coated pieces of popcorn. In fact, the entire experience was very familiar with the scent of aged cheddar and sugary caramel, sending me back to the popcorn tins under my grandparents’ Christmas tree every year. The cheddar popcorn was still soft and fluffy, carrying a savory aged cheddar flavor. The caramel pieces had a glossy hard caramel shell coating the fluffy interior and providing a creamy roasted sugar flavor.
Slowly building over a half hour, the popcorn induced an all over lightness that peaked as a floating sensation. A haziness took over my headspace, killing my anxiety but also my focus for the following hour. The popcorn also induced a case of the munchies on the tail end of the experience, which could kickstart a cycle of eating more popcorn to satiate the hunger induced by the popcorn. Overall, the relaxing effect profile and extremely familiar taste experience made for an edible that felt familiar the first time I tried it.
