Two Interstate Smugglers From Up Held In Chatra With 12kg Marijuana | Ranchi News
Chatra: Two smugglers from Uttar Pradesh were arrested from Vasisthnagar police station limits in Chatra district on Monday late evening when they were transporting 12kg marijuana from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh via the Huntergunj-Dobhi Road, police said.
The arrested were identified as Guru Prasad Singh of Jaunpur and Saurabh Maurya of Varanasi, both in Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan directed the Vasisthnagar police to launch vehicle checking drive. The accused were travelling in two cars with 12 packets, each weighing one kg, of the contraband item when they were intercepted. A smuggler, however, managed to escape.
Investigation is under way and a hunt has been launched to nab the absconding peddler, the SP added.
DSP Kedar Nath Ram said an FIR was lodged against the duo under the NDPS Act and both were sent to judicial custody. Two mobile phones and Rs 2,100 in cash were seized from the arrested, he added.
