Illinois proposes lighting efficacies exception for cannabis facilities

The Illinois General Assembly Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) announced Friday a proposed amendments for the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act to exempt Cannabis facilities from new horticulture electrical power and lighting systems rules.

The new proposed amendment regulates new lighting efficacies, stating, “Permanently installed luminaires shall have a photosynthetic photon efficacy of not less than 1.7 μmol/J for horticultural lighting in greenhouses and not less than 2.2 μmol/J for all other horticultural lighting. Luminaires for horticultural lighting in greenhouses shall be controlled by a device that automatically turns off the luminaire when sufficient daylight is available. Luminaires for horticultural lighting shall be controlled by a device that automatically turns off the luminaire at specific programmed times.”

The proposed amendment gives an exception for all cannabis facilities subject to the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. For more Illinois cannabis industry news, visit here.
